Our Story

2011 — 2022

Kavakava was founded by Jarle Sandodden in 2011, with a purpose-built studio for Argentine tango at Bislett in Oslo. A few years later, Susanne Mørk joined as co-founder, and together they built what would become one of Oslo's most active tango venues.

Over eleven years, we hosted classes, milongas, practicas, concerts, and tango weekends. Tangobar — our Friday milonga — ran throughout the entire period, and became a fixture in Oslo's tango life. For a time, we also hosted Milonga de Ramón on Tuesdays. Across those years, we organised Kavakava Tango Weekend eleven times, welcoming dancers and artists from around the world.

In June 2022, we held our final evening in the studio — Siste Dans. The building was set to be demolished, bringing eleven years at Bislett to a close.

2026 —

Kavakava returns in 2026 as an event organiser. We will host four annual KTW — Kavakava Tango Weekend — at Sentralen in Oslo, alongside standalone milongas and workshops throughout the year.

We could not have wished for a better way to return. KTW 2026 Autumn Edition — our first — takes place this October, welcoming Mariano Chicho Frumboli and Juana Sepúlveda to Oslo.

Whether you danced with us at Bislett or are joining us for the first time — welcome to the next chapter.

With warm regards,
Jarle, Susanne, Anabella,  Kennedy & Lucy
